In the second quarter of 2026, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated ₦603.64 billion from customers, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This occurred despite a 3.4% decline in the volume of electricity supplied to them, with average energy offtake falling to 3,197.03 megawatt-hours per hour (MWh/h) from 3,309.48 MWh/h in the previous quarter.
The DisCos achieved an overall offtake performance of 94.07% against a partially contracted capacity of 3,398.41 MWh/h. They received a total of 6,982.32 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity but billed customers for only 5,812.31 GWh, resulting in an energy accounting efficiency of 83.24%.
The value of electricity off-taken was ₦946.57 billion, while the total billed amount was ₦744.67 billion, leading to a billing efficiency of 78.67%. However, collection performance improved, with DisCos recovering ₦603.64 billion from the billed amount, translating to a collection efficiency of 81.06%, an increase from 78.95% in the previous quarter.
