DisCos Face N51.17 Billion Revenue Shortfall in December

In December 2025, Nigerian electricity distribution companies (DisCos) experienced a revenue shortfall of N51.17 billion, as reported by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The total bill issued to electricity consumers nationwide was N706.61 billion, with only N570.25 billion collected, resulting in a collection efficiency of 80.70%.

The report indicated that the DisCos billed customers N258.66 billion but managed to collect N207.49 billion, translating to a collection efficiency of 80.22%. The average revenue realized by DisCos was N98.97 per kilowatt hour, compared to the allowed average tariff of N124.30 per kilowatt hour, leading to a revenue recovery efficiency of 79.62%.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest revenue collection of N17.57 billion, while the Jos Electricity Distribution Company had the lowest collection efficiency at 42.92%. The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company's data was unavailable due to ongoing upgrades to its billing system.
