Nigerian Aviation Expert Raises Concerns Over Domestic Air Traffic Disruption in 2026

Aviation expert Chinedu Ez of Flight Logistics Solutions Limited, along with industry consultant Amo Akpan, expressed concerns about the potential disruption in domestic air traffic movement in Nigeria in 2026. The rise in airfare costs has led to limited growth in passenger numbers at major airports like Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt.

However, feeder airports such as Owerri, Uyo, Benin, and others have seen a slight increase in passenger figures. The upcoming 2027 general elections and political campaigns are expected to drive air travel demand across the country.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) data indicates a drop in passenger figures at major airports but a rise at feeder airports, suggesting a need for more investment in aviation infrastructure and affordable air travel options.
