Dominic Iorfa: Ex-Super Eagles Player Shares Sad Story of How He Was Dropped from AFCON Squad

Former Super Eagles player Dominic Iorfa shared a heartbreaking story of being dropped from the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations squad by German coach Manfred Höner. Despite a successful tournament for Nigeria, which saw them reach the final and narrowly lose to Cameroon, Iorfa was left out of the squad, with rumors suggesting his Ghanaian nationality played a role.

Iorfa's association with the national team began in 1984, but he missed out on a significant opportunity in 1988. Despite this setback, he went on to represent Nigeria at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and the 1995 FIFA Confederations Cup.

However, his misfortune in Africa's premier tournament continued as he also missed the 1992 AFCON. Iorfa's move to Turkish club Galatasaray in 1991 was seen as a high point in his career, but perceptions of Nigerian football officials may have contributed to his exclusion from the national team.
