Nigeria Confirms No Ebola Cases Amid Congo Outbreak

Alhaji Moham Idri, addressing the media during the inauguration of a meeting of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus in Abuja, reassured Nigerians that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of vigilance due to recent developments in Africa, particularly the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has led to about 600 confirmed deaths and 1,700 suspected cases.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is assessing the risk of importation of the virus, given the movement of people in the region. Idri urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic, while also highlighting the need for accurate information to prevent misinformation.

He noted that the government is enhancing surveillance and health facility preparedness across the country, drawing lessons from the successful containment of the Ebola outbreak in 2014.
