Max Dowman Makes History in Arsenal's 4-2 Cup Victory

On Tuesday, Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road in the Carabao Cup, with 16-year-old Max Dowman making history by scoring twice. Dowman opened the scoring just six minutes into the match and added another goal shortly after halftime, marking his first competitive start of the season.

Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino also scored for Arsenal, putting them ahead 4-0 before Ipswich responded with goals from Anis Mehmeti and former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom. Dowman's first goal made him the third-youngest scorer in Carabao Cup history at 16 years and 258 days, following Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere.

His second goal also placed him in a select group, as he became the second 16-year-old to score twice in a game for a Premier League club in all competitions, after Wayne Rooney. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also featured 17-year-old Marli Salmon in the starting lineup.

Arsenal will next face Brighton & Hove Albion in Premier League action.
