Court Drama as EFCC and Yahaya Bello's Lawyer Clash

In a dramatic session at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the legal team representing former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello engaged in a sharp disagreement over witness statements related to an ongoing money laundering case. The conflict began when EFCC counsel Kemi Pinheiro SAN attempted to reintroduce an earlier statement made by witness Abdullahi Jamilu.

Yahaya Bello's lead counsel, Joseph Daudu SAN, strongly opposed this move, arguing that the prosecution could not confront its own witness without the court first declaring the witness hostile. The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, decided to suspend further arguments on the issue and adjourned the case until April 24, 2026, when it will deliver its ruling.

The witness's testimony revealed discrepancies regarding transactions involving significant sums of money, raising questions about the integrity of the evidence presented.
