DSS Arrests Alleged Mastermind of Kogi Church Abduction

The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended Shafiu Usman, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the deadly abduction of worshippers at the ECWA Church in Ayetoro, Kogi State, which occurred on December 14, 2025. Security sources reported that Usman was arrested at a hideout in Gomb State after evading capture for some time.

During interrogation, Usman confessed to orchestrating the Ayetoro church attack and coordinating kidnapping operations across Niger State, Kwara State, and Kogi State. He is reportedly linked to Ibrahim Battijo, a notorious bandit operating in these regions as well as Zamfara State.

The DSS's operation highlights its ongoing efforts to combat banditry and terrorism, which includes recent actions in Gomb State aimed at neutralizing arms trafficking networks and rescuing kidnapping victims. Usman remains in custody and is awaiting arraignment.
