Nigerian DSS Thwarts Sea Pirate Hijack Plan, Arrests Two Suspects

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria successfully apprehended two suspected sea pirates, Geoffrey Atizara and Divin Kelechi Unuez, in Bayelsa State. The arrests were made in Yenagoa, the state capital, where the suspects were allegedly finalizing their plan to hijack a crude oil-laden vessel in the Gulf of Guinea and abduct its crew.

Atizara, a 38-year-old native of Aleibiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, and Unuez, a 42-year-old from Neked in Owerri, Imo State, were reportedly planning to profit from sea piracy and kidnapping activities. The DSS, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, intensified intelligence-driven operations to enhance maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea region, resulting in the disruption of the suspects' criminal network.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat piracy, crude oil theft, and other maritime security challenges in the region.
