DSS Arrests Alleged Mastermind of Kogi Kidnapping

The Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended Shafiu Usman, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the December 14, 2025, kidnapping at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Ayetoro, Kogi State. The operation took place in Gombe State, where Usman had reportedly gone into hiding.

During interrogation, Usman confessed to orchestrating the attack, which involved armed men on motorcycles abducting at least 30 residents, primarily children and elderly worshippers. He is said to have collaborated with notorious bandit Ibrahim Battijo, who operates across Kogi, Kwara, and Zamfara States.

The DSS's efforts to tackle banditry and terrorism include recent operations in Gombe State aimed at neutralizing arms trafficking networks and rescuing kidnapping victims. Usman remains in custody and is awaiting arraignment.
