DSS Petitions Social Media X to Remove Sowore's Tweet Over Alleged Hate Speech

The Department of State Services (DSS) has petitioned social media platform X, requesting the removal of activist Omoyele Sowore's tweet. The DSS accused Sowore of posting misleading information, hate speech, and incitement to violence in a tweet on August 25, 2025.

The agency alleged that Sowore's tweet disparaged the President and could incite unrest. The DSS argued that the tweet violated Nigerian laws related to terrorism and deliberate disinformation.

Sowore's account, YeleSowore, is verified on the platform. The DSS letter, signed by Bamigboye on behalf of the agency, demanded the immediate suspension of Sowore's account.

The agency claimed that the tweet posed a threat to national security and Nigeria's international reputation.
