DSS Convicts Ibrahim Usman to Death for Triple Murder

The Department of State Services (DSS) has achieved a significant legal victory with the conviction and death sentence of Ibrahim Usman, also known as Dan Iyali, for his role in the kidnapping and murder of three victims in Sokoto State in September 2023. Usman faced a four-count charge, including criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and culpable homicide, before the Sokoto High Court.

Justice Mohammed Mohammed presided over the case and determined that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt. As a result, Usman received a life sentence for kidnapping and a death sentence by hanging for culpable homicide.

The incident occurred on September 9, 2023, when Usman and his accomplices attacked Bare Village in Goronyo Local Government Area, armed and shooting indiscriminately. They kidnapped several residents, including Ahmad Alhassan and Umar Usman, and later shot three victims—Alhaji Shuaibu Isah, Umar Usman, and Adamu Haliru—resulting in their deaths.

Usman was arrested in May 2024 and subsequently arraigned under the Sokoto State Penal Code Law 2019.
