D’Tigress Coach Rena Wakama Urges Focus After Loss

D’Tigress, the Nigerian women's basketball team, faced a defeat against South Korea with a score of 77-60. This marked the first time Nigeria's senior women's basketball team lost to South Korea.

The game was competitive in the first half, with Nigeria trailing narrowly at 36-32, but they could not maintain their momentum in the second half. Victoria Macaulay led Nigeria's efforts, scoring 22 points and grabbing six rebounds.

Coach Rena Wakama urged her players to quickly move past the loss and refocus on their upcoming match against the Philippines in the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament in Lyon, France. Wakama acknowledged the strong performance of the Korean team and noted that Nigeria struggled with turnovers and physical pressure.

She emphasized the importance of learning from this experience to prepare better for future games. The D’Tigress will also face Germany, who have already qualified for the FIBA Women’s World Cup scheduled for September in Berlin.
