In 2026, the Dubai government released a set of official guidelines for expatriate residents seeking to obtain residence visas for their family members, which include spouses, children under 25, and parents. Both male and female residents are eligible to sponsor their spouse and children.

The residence visa for parents is issued annually, irrespective of the sponsor's visa validity. The process consists of four steps: first, applying for an entry permit for family members to enter the UAE; second, completing a medical fitness test for those over 18 years; third, applying for a residence visa; and fourth, obtaining an Emirates ID, which serves as the official identification for residents.
