NOA DG Urges Love and Unity During Easter Celebration

On April 8, 2023, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), called on Nigerians to embody values of love, tolerance, and unity as they celebrate Easter. He highlighted the importance of these values in fostering relationships and overcoming barriers related to faith, ethnicity, and political affiliations.

Onilu noted the current critical period in Nigeria's history and warned that terrorist and criminal elements pose significant threats to national unity and peace. He referenced recent violent incidents, including a bomb attack in Maiduguri, Borno State, which exemplified the dangers facing the nation.

Onilu assured that the government remains committed to addressing security challenges and urged both Christian and Muslim communities to unite against terrorism. He called on religious leaders and traditional rulers to promote messages of peace and mutual respect.

Additionally, he encouraged media and civil society to counter divisive narratives that could exploit communal differences. Onilu concluded by extending warm Easter greetings to Christians across Nigeria, expressing hope for renewed harmony in the nation.
