Abuja Airport Enhances Ebola Surveillance Measures

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has intensified its surveillance and sensitization measures following Nigeria's declaration of a high alert due to the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has initiated extensive awareness campaigns among passengers and airport personnel to prevent the potential importation and spread of the virus.

Airport spokesperson Bishop Kunle stated that the facility is prepared to support screening, monitoring, and tracing of passengers as necessary. Compliance with health declaration forms for contact tracing is enforced before passengers leave the airport.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) issued the public health alert, with Director-General Jide Idris confirming that preparatory activities are in place to enhance Nigeria's readiness against any potential threats. The NCDC also advised travelers from countries with active Ebola transmission to complete health forms and remain vigilant for symptoms.
