Onuigbo Calls for Accountability from Governors on Economy

Hon. Sam Onuigbo, President of the Global Legislators Organisation for A Balanced Environment (GLOBE Legislators International), stated that Nigerians should hold state governors responsible for the ongoing economic hardship, despite significant financial inflows resulting from the removal of the petroleum subsidy. Speaking in Abuja, Onuigbo lamented that many governors have not reciprocated President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal reforms.
He pointed out that while the federal government receives 52.68 percent of revenue from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), state governors have been receiving 47.32 percent without allowing local councils access to the 20.60 percent that is constitutionally allocated to them. Onuigbo highlighted that Nasarawa State's share from FAAC increased from an average of N3.8 billion to N4.5 billion to between N14 billion and N16 billion monthly post-subsidy removal.
He stressed the importance of local governments receiving adequate resources to support agriculture and community development.
