Edo Governor Revokes Museum's Certificate of Occupancy Over Public Interest Concerns

Edo State Governor revoked the certificate of occupancy of the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) previously issued by former Governor Godwin Obaseki. The revocation was based on public interest grounds under the Land Use Act of 1978.

MOWAA clarified its mission and ownership structure, emphasizing its commitment to preserving West Africa's cultural heritage. The museum denied claims of misrepresentation as the Benin Royal Museum and urged stakeholders to verify its records.

Director Phillip Ihenacho reaffirmed MOWAA's respect for the Benin monarchy and its dedication to cultural promotion within the community.
