EFCC Arraigns Former University VC Over N19.7m Bribery Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against Professor Armaya U. Hamisu Bichi, the former Vice Chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, along with two co-defendants, Lawal Tukur Mani and Aliyu Lawal Jari, for allegedly receiving bribes totaling N19.7 million.

The allegations include bribery and abuse of office related to kickbacks from contract awards. The prosecution claims that Bichi received bribes for awarding contracts, including a N5 million bribe from Theophilus Ilechukwu Goezek of an agency for the supply of medical equipment to the university.

The defendants pleaded not guilty during the court proceedings. Bail was granted to the defendants, with the trial scheduled to begin on March 12, 2026.
