EFCC Plans Grassroots Anti-Corruption Campaign in 2026

On September 22, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, announced the commission's intention to extend its anti-corruption campaign to local government councils during the Annual National Conference of Local Government Council Chairmen and Traditional Rulers Councils in Abuja. Represented by Commander CE Wilson Uwujaren, Olukoyede emphasized that increased resources allocated to local governments should improve living conditions for citizens.

He stated that the EFCC supports President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and highlighted the use of recovered crime proceeds for public investment, including ₦50 billion directed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation. The EFCC reported recovering over ₦1.233 trillion between October 2023 and the recent stewardship account, including $684.48 million, £373,905.78, and €9.34 million.

Olukoyede noted that approximately ₦661.32 billion and $492.37 million had been returned to beneficiaries, linking economic crimes to national security concerns.
