A regional headquarters for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission opened in Awka, Anambra State, to strengthen enforcement across both Anambra and Imo states. On Friday, the inauguration drew President Bola Tinubu's representative, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, together with Governors Chukwuma Soludo and Hope Uzodimma, as well as EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede.

Tinubu's delegation emphasized the commission's accomplishments at the event, noting that more than 10,800 convictions have been achieved and over N1.2 trillion in assets recovered under current leadership. These achievements, officials argued, demonstrate both presidential confidence in the institution and its proven capacity to combat financial crimes effectively.

According to Olukoyede, the Awka facility transcends mere geographic spread. He described it as an affirmation of the entrepreneurial efforts undertaken by residents across both states.

The chairman elaborated that protecting commerce, investment, and employment from fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, advance-fee scams, and public fund theft formed the office's core mission. Partnerships involving state authorities and the EFCC, he emphasized, would prove essential for success.

EFCC officials indicated the new regional facility would amplify prosecutorial capacity and investigative scope throughout the region while expanding avenues for accountability and justice. By positioning anti-graft operations nearer to residents, institutions, and commercial enterprises, the office aims to deliver services more effectively.

The Friday gathering included prominent National Assembly members, traditional leaders representing both states, and industry leaders.
