Nigerian Senate Considers 2% Retention on EFCC Recoveries Amid Anti-Corruption Success

Senators expressed satisfaction with EFCC's dedicated professionalism and notable achievements in combating financial crimes, especially in 2024.

The Senate lauded President Bola Tinubu's support for anti-corruption efforts, including appointing capable leadership for EFCC. EFCC received over 15,000 petitions in 2024, filed numerous cases, secured convictions, and recovered substantial funds and assets.

Despite resource constraints, EFCC remains committed to its mandate, inspiring public confidence and strengthening Nigeria's global reputation. Some senators raised concerns about the statutory percentage of recovery funds retained by EFCC, questioning the need for legislative approval.
