EiE Nigeria Urges Pause in Implementing Nigeria's Tax Reform Law Over Transparency Concerns

EiE Nigeria has urged the Nigerian government to halt the implementation of the newly enacted tax reform law set to begin on January 1, 2026, citing the need to address transparency and trust issues. The organization's Deputy Executive Director of Programs, Ufuoma Nnamdi Udeh, emphasized that proceeding with the reform without resolving these concerns could delegitimize the reform, weaken compliance, and erode public trust.

EiE Nigeria outlined specific safeguards, including making the exact version of the tax bill publicly available and ensuring legal certainty to prevent any alterations. The call for transparency and legal compliance aims to enhance public trust and voluntary compliance with the tax system.
