Ekiti Police Warn Against Campaign Material Destruction

The Ekiti State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Sundai Abutu, has warned political party loyalists against engaging in unlawful acts that could disrupt the peace during the upcoming governorship election scheduled for June 20. The police emphasized that any individual found culpable of destroying or defacing campaign materials, such as posters and billboards, will face severe consequences under the law.

The statement, made available in Ado Ekiti, was also supported by the State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falad, who urged citizens to abide by the law and report any suspicious activities. The police highlighted that such destructive actions are not only illegal but also undermine the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

They advised political actors to conduct their campaigns peacefully and warned parents to keep their children from being used as tools by politicians who may jeopardize the electoral process. The police also provided an emergency contact number, 08062335577, for reporting any incidents.
