El-Rufai Defends Kwankwaso Amid Sharia Law Criticism

In an interview with Arise TV, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai defended Rabiu Kwankwaso, questioning the targeting of Kwankwaso over his implementation of Sharia law in Northern Nigeria. El-Rufai noted that 12 Northern states have adopted Sharia law, with Zamfara being the first.

He argued that it is unfair to single out Kwankwaso when other governors, including those from Kano State, have followed Zamfara's example. El-Rufai criticized the labeling of Kwankwaso as a fundamentalist, asserting that such descriptions are incorrect.

He raised concerns about the political motivations behind the criticism, suggesting that Kwankwaso's refusal to join the APC and the involvement of a $9 billion lobbying effort could be factors. El-Rufai emphasized the importance of examining the broader issues of insecurity and the need for Nigerians to discern political interests from genuine concerns about safety, regardless of religious affiliation.
