El-Rufai Detained by EFCC Over N432bn Fraud Allegations

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday night at their headquarters in Abuja. This detention followed hours of interrogation regarding allegations of N432 billion in corrupt practices.

El-Rufai, a member of the African Democratic Congress, arrived at the EFCC's Jabi office around 10 AM in response to an invitation. Multiple sources within the anti-graft agency confirmed that he remained in custody late into the night.

The EFCC's investigation has been ongoing for nearly a year, focusing on allegations of misappropriation of loans and breach of due process in contract awards during El-Rufai's administration, which reportedly left the state in significant debt. Additionally, the EFCC has filed three counts of cybercrime charges against El-Rufai in the Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing him of unlawfully intercepting communications of NSA Nuhu Ribadu, which allegedly compromised national security.

No arraignment date has been set.
