El-Rufai Seeks Dismissal of DSS Case, Demands N2 Billion

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to file a motion seeking to strike out a criminal case brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS). He is requesting the court to dismiss the charges and award him N2 billion in compensation.

The case, referenced as FHC/ABJ/CR/99/2026, is scheduled for hearing on February 25, 2026, with Justice Joyce Abdulmalik presiding. El-Rufai argues that the charges lack a known offense under the law and constitute an abuse of court process.

His legal team has identified 17 grounds for the application, including claims of legal defects and the absence of prosecutorial competence. El-Rufai contends that the case is politically motivated, aimed at damaging his reputation, and alleges violations of several provisions of the 1999 Constitution, including the presumption of innocence and the right against self-incrimination.

The DSS had previously filed three counts against him, alleging cybercrime and unlawful interception of communications.
