El-Rufai Calls for Opposition Unity Against Tinubu in 2027

Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai urged opposition leaders to unite in their efforts to remove President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 general elections. His remarks came during a visit to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following an alleged attempt by security operatives to detain individuals at an airport.

El-Rufai described the airport incident as unfortunate and unnecessary, suggesting it reflects potential unlawful practices by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). He emphasized that he received a communication from the ICPC prior to the airport incident, which he claimed lacked a formal invitation.

El-Rufai also accused the ICPC of acting under the instructions of the government, warning that the deployment of security agencies for political purposes undermines democratic institutions and weakens the rule of law. He reiterated his commitment to continue working towards the removal of the current administration until March 2027.
