INEC to Review Supreme Court Ruling on Electoral Act

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced it will review the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court's recent judgement regarding the Electoral Act 2026 before implementing any changes. Wilfred Ifogah, INEC’s Deputy Director of Voter Education and Publicity, stated that the Commission must first receive the CTC before deciding on its next steps.

This announcement follows a Supreme Court ruling that upheld INEC's appeal against a July 16 judgement from the Court of Appeal, which had voided certain provisions of the Electoral Act. The Supreme Court, led by Justice Adamu Jauro, restored the Federal High Court's earlier dismissal of a challenge by the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) regarding Sections 77(5), 77(6), 77(7), and 84(2) of the Act.

Candidates like former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, and Hon. Kingsley Chinda have insisted that they are not affected by the Supreme Court's ruling.
