Elumelu Retires as UBA Chairman; Nnorom Takes Over

Tony O. Elumelu has announced his retirement as the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, effective August 21, 2026, after completing the maximum 12-year tenure for non-executive directors as prescribed by the Central Bank of Nigeria's corporate governance guidelines.

UBA expressed appreciation for Elumelu's visionary leadership, which has been pivotal in transforming the bank into one of Africa's leading financial institutions, serving 50 million customers across 20 African countries. Emmanuel N.

Nnorom, currently a non-executive director at UBA, has been appointed as the new Group Chairman, also effective August 21, 2026. Nnorom brings over 40 years of experience in financial services and has held various leadership roles within UBA, including Group Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

He is expected to continue building on UBA's achievements and legacy.
