Witness Confirms Emefiele Not Linked to ₦124.86bn Withdrawal

On October 8, during a court session at the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, Dr Ali Mohammed, a Director in the Federal Ministry of Finance, testified that Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was not a signatory to the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Account from which ₦124.86 billion was withdrawn. Mohammed stated that the withdrawal was not traced to Emefiele’s personal account and that none of the three letters exchanged between the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General identified Emefiele as a signatory.
He noted that the Ministry of Finance did not authorize the withdrawal and that neither the Minister of Finance nor the Accountant-General questioned the transaction. Mohammed also mentioned that he was invited by the EFCC regarding the withdrawal but was not interrogated about it, nor did he see any documents implicating Emefiele.
He was unaware that the funds were withdrawn for Hajj pilgrimage subsidy.
