Ending Open Defecation Key To Effective Sanitary Inspection – Expert

Environmental health expert Ogbonnaya Akoma emphasized the importance of ending open defecation for effective sanitary inspection during the relaunch of sanitary inspection in Umuahia, the state capital. Akoma highlighted the need for functional toilets in households, schools, places of worship, and markets to discourage open defecation.

He also stressed the significance of proper ventilation in buildings to prevent airborne diseases. The expert urged the public to prioritize hygiene and healthy living by consuming natural foods and avoiding processed foods.

The state government, in collaboration with various agencies and stakeholders, has initiated a multidimensional response to address sanitation issues and predicted flooding in the state. Commissioner for Environment, Philmone Asonye, emphasized the importance of advocacy visits to local government areas to promote sanitation practices.
