Arik Air Diverts Flight Due to Engine Rupture, Passengers Safe

Arik Air's flight W3 740 from Lagos to Port Harcourt was diverted to Benin Airport due to an engine rupture on the Boeing 737-700 aircraft. The decision to divert was made after the flight crew heard a loud bang from the left engine, indicating damage.

The 80 passengers and crew onboard were safely disembarked with no injuries reported. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigations into the incident, with preliminary observations suggesting significant engine damage.

The NSIB is working closely with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Arik Air to determine the sequence of events leading to the engine rupture. A preliminary report is expected to be issued within 30 days in accordance with international aviation standards.
