Tuchel Asserts England Squad Built for Balance, Not Talent

Thomas Tuchel, the current coach, stated that the England squad for the World Cup is constructed for balance rather than solely focusing on individual talent. He made bold selections, omitting notable names while including players like Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Ivan Toney.

Tuchel, who has previously managed Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, expressed that the aim is to build the best possible team rather than just selecting the 26 most talented players. He acknowledged the difficulty of leaving extraordinary talents out of the squad, which consisted of 55 players initially considered.

Tuchel emphasized the importance of creating a brotherhood within the team, believing that England possesses world-class players capable of overcoming the challenges of the tournament. He also noted that selecting Ivan Toney from Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League was a surprising choice, highlighting Toney's impressive record of 32 goals in 32 league games as a valuable asset for the team.

England's World Cup campaign begins against Croatia on June 17.
