Nigerian Economic Society Advocates for Budget Credibility

The Nigerian Economic Society (NES) has called on the federal and state governments to prioritize credible budgeting, sustainable revenue generation, and transparent public spending to enhance the living conditions of Nigerians. This statement was made by Dr Baba Musa, the NES President, represented by Prof Comfort M. Amire during a three-day capacity-building workshop organized in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Budget and Planning.
The workshop, themed “Framework for Fiscal Management, Effective Governance and Sustainable Development in Ogun State,” took place at MITROS Residence, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Dr Musa highlighted the necessity of effective fiscal management to ensure that the benefits of Nigeria's economic reforms are realized by citizens.
He stressed that borrowing should be linked to productive investments, ensuring future generations inherit valuable assets rather than liabilities. Musa also advocated for improved revenue generation through efficient tax administration and responsible borrowing for development projects with clear returns.
