Arteta Defends Arsenal Amid Injury Withdrawal Controversy

Mikel Arteta, the current coach of Arsenal, defended the club against scrutiny regarding the high number of international player withdrawals, which included 11 players during the recent break. Arteta insisted that these decisions were based on clear medical assessments and that the club handles player fitness transparently.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with national teams, referencing England's manager Thomas Tuchel as an example of cooperation. Among the players who withdrew were William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães due to ankle and knee injuries, respectively.

Other notable absences included Eberechi Eze, Martin Ødegaard, and Jurrien Timber, with Leandro Trossard also pulling out due to a hip problem. Arteta confirmed that Ødegaard and Timber would return, while Madueke's injury was assessed as less serious.

He reiterated Arsenal's full support for international football when players are fit to participate, as the club prepares for an FA Cup quarter-final against Southampton.
