Coach Eric Chelle Shifts Focus to AFCON After World Cup Setback

Nigerian coach Eric Chelle has turned his attention to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after missing out on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Chelle, who took over from Finidi George, aims to lead Nigeria to success in the AFCON scheduled for December 2025 to January 2026.

Despite facing challenges, including reports of not fully meeting contract terms, Chelle has impressed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with his aggressive approach. Nigerian President Tinubu has emphasized the importance of focusing on African competitions.

Chelle has already compiled a list of players for the AFCON, aiming to replicate or surpass his previous quarterfinal achievement in 2023.
