Davido Reveals Father's Role in Nigeria's Electricity Supply

Afrobeat superstar Davido disclosed in a viral video that his father, Adedeji Adeleke, a Nigerian billionaire businessman, generates approximately 18% of Nigeria's electricity through his power generation company. Davido explained that the family business sells electricity directly to the government, which is responsible for distribution to end users.

The business is recognized as a significant private contributor to Nigeria's notoriously unstable electricity grid. Davido mentioned that there are plans to expand the business to eventually supply 35% of West Africa's power needs.

He made these comments while addressing questions about his father's background and their family's discussions, emphasizing the contrast between living conditions in Nigeria and the United States, where he holds dual citizenship. Adedeji Adeleke is a Harvard-educated businessman with interests in music, hospitality, and energy, and is the brother of Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State.
