New Book by Oyeyinka Highlights Africa's Industrial Future

Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, a former senior special adviser on industrialization at the African Development Bank, has unveiled a new book focused on Africa's industrial future. The book urges African leaders to prioritize technological capabilities as foundational for sustainable growth.

Oyeyinka, who began his academic career in chemical engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University and later earned a master's degree from the University of Toronto, reflects on his intellectual journey and the importance of technological innovation in economic development. He critiques Africa's heavy reliance on crude oil and mineral exports, describing this path as unsustainable and highlighting the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the continent's industrial base.

Oyeyinka warns of a potential premature deindustrialization and advocates for mastery in manufacturing as a critical opportunity for economic engagement. His work draws comparisons between Nigeria's economic trajectory and the rapid industrialization of Asian countries, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo endorsing his scholarship.
