Former Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Joy Ogwu Dies At 79

Joy Ogwu, a former Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has died at 79 in New York. Ogwu, born in Delta State, had a distinguished career in academia, policy research, and international diplomacy.

She served as Foreign Affairs Minister from 2006 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN until 2017. Ogwu was known for her expertise in international relations, disarmament, and Nigeria's foreign policy.

She was also a strong advocate for women's empowerment, human rights, and education, contributing to UNESCO programs.
