Ex-Honourable Accused of N4m Bribe for Grazing Permit

Ukpong Edet Godwin Edet, a former honourable, has been accused of collecting N4 million from cattle rearers to allow open grazing in Odukpani Local Government Area, Cross River State. This allegation was made during a stakeholders' meeting organized by the Cross River State Police Command to address ongoing conflicts between farmers and herders in the area.

Farmers have raised concerns about the destruction of crops and threats to their safety due to herders' activities, including intimidation with firearms. The meeting, directed by Police Commissioner Rashid Afegbua, aimed to address these grievances and maintain peace.

Reports indicate that complaints about the destruction of farmland by cattle have been received. The clan heads and village leaders present at the meeting emphasized the need for compliance with peace agreements and the importance of addressing grievances through proper channels to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
