Ex-Kogi Senator Dino Melaye dumps PDP, cites party’s ‘lack of potency’

Former Kogi Senator Dino Melaye has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party's "lack of potency" to provide credible leadership and deliver good governance to Nigerians. In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to the chairman of PDP Ward 1 in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye expressed his immediate withdrawal from party activities.

He mentioned that his decision was made after deep reflection on the party's current state and trajectory, stating that he could no longer in good conscience participate in its activities. Melaye had served as a PDP candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election.

He thanked the party for the opportunity to serve on its platform and formally withdrew his involvement effective immediately.
