Former Nigerian Lawmaker Urges Trump to Review Atiku Probe

Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives and former Federal Commissioner of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has submitted a petition to U.S. President Donald Trump dated September 24, 2026.

The petition calls for a review of a historical U.S. financial-crime investigation concerning former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, which originated from a June 22, 2006 letter from the U.S. Attorney’s Office to Nigerian authorities.

Agbonayinma requests that U.S. authorities revisit the original 2006 investigative request and all related records, including those generated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He emphasizes that the allegations of bribery, money laundering, and other financial crimes linked to Atiku should not be construed as proof of guilt.

The petition also highlights findings from a 2010 U.S. Senate investigation, which examined millions of dollars transferred through offshore entities.

Agbonayinma urges U.S. authorities to determine if any transactions remain actionable under U.S. law.
