Former Lawmakers Seek to Amend Deregistration Suit

On Tuesday, former lawmakers sought an order from the Federal High Court in Abuja to amend the summons in a suit aimed at deregistering the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Action Alliance (AA) for alleged breaches of the 1999 Constitution. Counsel Yakubu Abdullahi Ruba argued that the legal action was necessary to accommodate political parties found in violation of the law.

The ADC's counsel, Shuaibu Eneojo Aruwa, countered that the application was incompetent and should be dismissed. The case involves two origin summons filed on December 8, 2025, and January 12, 2026, with the plaintiffs seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce constitutional thresholds for political parties.

The court is expected to deliver its ruling on the amendment request on April 17, 2026.
