Ex-Pension Boss Abdulrasheed Maina Released After Serving 8-Year Jail Term

Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, has been released from prison after serving eight years for money laundering charges involving 2 billion naira from pension funds. He was convicted in November 2021 by the Federal High Court and sentenced to 61 years in prison by Justice Okon Abang.

Maina was found guilty of concealing his identity as a signatory to several bank accounts in his family members' names. Despite appealing the judgment, the Court of Appeal upheld his conviction and reduced his sentence to eight years, leading to his recent release.
