Nigerian Air Travelers Face Excessive Taxes on International Routes, Concerns Over Infrastructure Development

Nigerian air travelers face excessive taxes on international routes, with Chinedu Eze reporting that the country has one of the highest taxes in Africa and globally. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reveals that Nigerian travelers pay around 480 million annually, including Passenger Service Charge (PSC) and security tax per passenger.

Despite these charges, there are concerns about the lack of discernible infrastructure improvements in the last 15 years. Various agencies like the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) collect these taxes, but questions arise about the utilization of funds for security infrastructure development at airports.
