Expert Calls for Increased Mental Health Support for Disaster Victims in Nigeria

Dr. Fawwaz Babandi from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, Nigeria, emphasized the need for enhanced mental health services and psychosocial support for disaster victims in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 2025 World Mental Health Day event, he highlighted the psychological impact of emergencies and called for more investment in mental health services. Despite the rising mental health challenges, there is a lack of adequate response, urging government agencies and humanitarian actors to integrate mental health care into emergency response systems.
