Kaspersky Warns of iPhone Duo Fraud Schemes Targeting Buyers

Cybercriminals have initiated fraudulent online sales campaigns targeting consumers interested in Apple's new iPhone Duo, according to cybersecurity firm Kaspersky. These scams utilize fake discounts, bogus preorders, and misleading websites to harvest personal information, exposing buyers to financial fraud.
One fraudulent website advertised a 25 percent discount, mimicking Apple's design to appear legitimate, and employed a countdown timer to create urgency. At checkout, the site requested contact details and shipping addresses without immediately asking for bank card information, claiming a representative would later confirm payment.
Kaspersky identified multilingual fraudulent websites that offered preorders and redirected customers to Apple’s official platform, which did not occur. In a campaign targeting Portuguese-speaking consumers, scammers used WhatsApp to manipulate victims into making financial transfers.
Olga Altukhova, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky, noted that the excitement surrounding flagship device launches often leads to increased vulnerability among consumers, as urgency can lower caution.
