FCCPC Resumes Digital Lending Rules After Court Ruling

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has resumed the implementation and enforcement of its digital lending regulations for 2025 after a Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice L. Allagoa upheld the validity of these regulations.

The court's ruling removed legal obstacles that had previously forced the FCCPC to suspend the enforcement of these rules. The case, identified as suit no.

FHC/L/CS/760/2026, was filed by the Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria Ltd. GTE, which sought to challenge the FCCPC's authority to implement these regulations.

The court dismissed the original summons and rejected the relief sought by the association. The FCCPC stated that the regulations are designed to establish clearer standards for digital and electronic non-traditional consumer lending, addressing concerns about unfair lending practices and consumer exploitation.

The commission emphasized its commitment to ensuring that digital lending operates within a fair and transparent regulatory environment.
