FCT Court Sentences Teacher to Life Imprisonment for Raping Nine-Year-Old

The FCT High Court in Abuja sentenced a 19-year-old school teacher, Abdullahi Abbass, to life imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old pupil in Kwali Area Council. The victim was assaulted despite threats from Abbass, leading to his arrest and conviction on two counts of rape and sexual abuse.

The case was referred to NAPTIP for prosecution under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act. This judgment is seen as a significant milestone in the fight against sexual violence in Nigeria.
